Simultaneously opening two word files

Hi, when I try to open another word file the existing file closes automatically. How to open and keep active two word files at the same time.

Hey Indira, we are trying to improve the multiple window support for apps.

Currently, we support this functionality in Docs and Sheets:

  1. Make sure you are on the latest OS version 2.4.3 (as of 19th March 2025)
  2. Open docs or sheets and click on any file you want to open.
  3. Press and hold Alt+Tab to switch back to the file opening menu.
  4. Open as many sheets or docs as you want and switch by either pressing Alt+Tab or clicking on the icon in the taskbar.

We’re trying to bring the same functionality to Word and Excel and all apps but if you don’t want to use docs and sheets:

See if the browser-based version of Word works for you: onedrive.live.com

In the browser, you can create multiple tabs and switch without any hassle.
