Why Primebook Must Provide True Multi-Window Support and Extended External Display for Its Wi-Fi Models

Primebook has positioned itself as an affordable, Made-in-India laptop aimed at students and everyday users. While the hardware offers decent value, the software experience continues to fall short in two critical areas: multi-window multitasking and proper external display support. Currently, when users connect a Primebook Wi-Fi model to a monitor or television via HDMI, the device only supports screen mirroring. There is no true extended or secondary display mode. At the same time, multi-window functionality remains limited compared to real desktop operating systems. These shortcomings significantly reduce the usefulness of the device, and Primebook should urgently address them. Screen mirroring simply duplicates the laptop’s display onto the external monitor. Both screens show exactly the same content. This is useful only in limited situations, such as presentations. In contrast, a true extended display — the standard feature found in Windows and most Linux distributions — treats the second monitor as additional workspace. Users can drag windows freely between the two screens, keep reference material open on one display while working on the other, or run different applications independently. This is how modern laptops are expected to work. The absence of this capability on Primebook makes the HDMI port far less useful than it should be. Multi-window support is equally important. Students frequently need to open a document, a browser, a video lecture, and notes at the same time. A proper multi-window system allows users to resize, arrange, and switch between applications efficiently. When this feature is incomplete or poorly implemented, productivity suffers. The current Android-based PrimeOS still carries many mobile-oriented limitations in window management, which become especially noticeable when an external monitor is connected. These limitations are not minor inconveniences. They directly affect the primary users of Primebook — students and first-time laptop buyers. An external monitor is one of the most common accessories students use for studying, online classes, and assignments. Without proper extended display support, the laptop cannot fully leverage a second screen. Similarly, limited multi-window capability forces users into constant app switching, reducing efficiency. Windows has long set the standard for how external displays should work. When a user connects a second monitor, Windows offers clear options for duplicate, extend, or second-screen only. The extended mode is seamless, reliable, and highly productive. There is no technical reason why a modern Android-based laptop cannot offer a comparable experience. Other devices running customized Android or Linux-based systems have already demonstrated that extended display is possible. Primebook’s decision to restrict users to mirroring only is therefore a software and design choice, not a hardware limitation. By adding true extended display support via HDMI and improving multi-window functionality, Primebook would significantly increase the value of its devices. Students would be able to study more effectively. Professionals could work more efficiently. The laptop would feel closer to a real computer rather than a large tablet in a clamshell form. These features would also reduce frustration and improve the overall reputation of the brand. Primebook has the opportunity to listen to user feedback and close the gap with established desktop operating systems. Providing proper multi-window support and genuine extended external display is not a luxury — it is a basic expectation for any laptop sold in 2026. Implementing these features would make the Primebook Wi-Fi models more competitive, more useful, and more deserving of the trust users place in a Made-in-India product.The company should prioritize these improvements in the next software update. Users have already clearly expressed the need. The only remaining question is whether Primebook will respond.

Hi Parag, we understand your concern. We’ve already improved multitasking and split-window functionality on our Gen 2 variants, and PrimeOS 3.0 also introduces extended display support. We’ll do our best to bring these improvements to the Gen 1 variants as well, although we can’t guarantee it at this time.

Thank you for the reply, but this is not satisfactory.

You are saying that multitasking, split-window, and extended display support have been improved only on Gen 2 devices with PrimeOS 3.0. For Gen 1 users like me (Primebook Wi-Fi), you are only saying “we will do our best” and “we can’t guarantee it”.

This is unfair. We also paid for the laptop. Why should Gen 1 users be left behind with only basic screen mirroring and limited multitasking while Gen 2 gets proper features?

I am clearly demanding:

Add proper extended display support (not just mirroring) on Gen 1 devices via HDMI.

Improve multi-window / split-screen functionality on Gen 1.

Add smooth animations like macOS (smooth window transitions, better animations while opening/closing apps and switching windows) to make the experience more premium and fluid.

If you are not able to implement these features on Gen 1, then at least unlock the bootloader so that users can install a better custom OS or Linux themselves.

Please do not keep Gen 1 users on an incomplete software experience. If you can improve these features for Gen 2, you can also bring them to Gen 1 with a proper software update. And if you cannot, then unlocking the bootloader is the least you can do.

I expect a clear answer — will you add these features for Gen 1, or will you unlock the bootloader?
